A directory built on real OT recommendations

An occupational therapist and a contractor collaborating on a home adaptation, reviewing a floor plan beside an open doorway.

OTAC Connect helps occupational therapists find contractors for home adaptation projects across the UK. Join to explore the directory and recommend contractors you’ve worked with and trust.

Find people who understand home adaptations

From level-access showers and accessible kitchens to ramps, stairlifts, wider doorways and grab rails, the right adaptation can make everyday life safer and easier.

OTAC Connect helps occupational therapists discover and recommend contractors relevant to this work.

Refer with something you can explain

A home visit often ends with a practical question: who can build what you have specified? OTAC Connect is there for that conversation — between you, the person, and a contractor you can account for.

  1. 1

    Only what has been published

After you join, search by trade, town or postcode, and service area. You will see listings that have been reviewed and published.

  2. 2

    OT Nominated means recommended

When an occupational therapist nominates a contractor and that nomination is approved, the listing can show OT Nominated. It records a recommendation from practice. It is not a certification, a guarantee of workmanship, or a promise about future work.

  3. 3

Your notes stay with the review

Recommend a contractor you have worked with: who they are, where they work, and what made the experience worth passing on. Your name, email and comments are for review, and are not shown publicly unless you explicitly choose that. Leave out client names and health details.

How an OT uses OTAC Connect

  1. 01

    Join

Create an account with the OTAC member access code and choose the occupational therapist role. Directory membership is currently free for this community. If a colleague would use it, pass the code on.

  2. 02

    Search published listings

Look for contractors by the work and the area. Read the profile, including any OT Nominated status, and make your own assessment before you suggest someone.

  3. 03

Recommend a contractor you already trust

If you have worked with a contractor you would mention to a colleague, nominate them. Each nomination is reviewed before a listing can be published.

For contractors

Get in front of occupational therapists looking for trusted adaptation contractors.

OTAC Connect helps OTs find contractors for the home adaptations they plan and recommend. If an OT has worked with you and nominates your business, your listing gives others in the network a way to discover your services.

  • Be found for the work you do

Show the areas you cover and the adaptations you deliver, so OTs can see whether you’re a fit for the people they support.

  • Show your OT nomination

Once a nomination is approved, your listing displays an OT Nominated badge. It tells visitors that an occupational therapist has recommended your business based on their experience working with you.

  • Keep your profile up to date

Claim your listing to review your details and make sure OTs have accurate information about your services and coverage.

  • Access collective purchasing

Recommended contractors who buy in smaller volumes may be able to access preferred product pricing through Collective Purchasing, arranged privately after they claim their listing.

Joining OTAC Connect is currently free for nominated contractors. Collective Purchasing is discussed individually after a listing is claimed.

Good recommendations should go further

Occupational therapists often know which contractors listen, communicate clearly and carry out adaptation work with care. OTAC Connect gives those recommendations a place to be shared, so an OT looking for a contractor in their area can benefit from a colleague’s experience.

For OTs, it means a growing directory shaped by the people who understand adaptation work firsthand. Recommending a contractor is a simple way to recognise good work and help other OTs find someone worth considering.

We want that support to reach contractors too. Smaller firms can do excellent work while struggling to access the product pricing available to larger buyers. Collective Purchasing brings their buying power together to help level the playing field.

Collective Purchasing is available by invitation to recommended contractors who have claimed their listing. OTAC Connect is currently free to join for OTs and nominated contractors.

The next referral still needs a name you can stand behind.

Join with the community access code to search the directory, or tell us about a contractor whose adaptation work you already trust.

Occupational therapist and managing director

Promoting Independence Limited

Stuart Barrow is an occupational therapist and the managing director of Promoting Independence Limited, which organises the Occupational Therapy Adaptation Conference. The conference site describes more than 20 years in the occupational therapy sector, first as an occupational therapist and later as an event organiser and consultant. Promoting Independence has run the OTAC programme since the first event in Reading in 2017: free one-day conferences and exhibitions around the UK, with talks on home adaptations and a chance to see equipment. OTAC Connect is the directory beside that programme.
